How much does a purebred dog cost in Colombia in 2026?

By Casa Trufa ·

It depends on the breed and, above all, on what is behind the puppy. In October 2026, the Colombian ads and breeder websites we checked list from COP 1,300,000 for a Maltese to more than COP 16,000,000 for a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. These are third-party figures, not Casa Trufa’s, and the range within a single breed is huge.

How much is being asked for each breed today?

This table gathers what others publish. We put it together by reading breeder websites and ad listings on October 7, 2026. Where it says “summary,” the figure comes from the search engine’s summary and not from the page itself, so it is less reliable.

Figures published by third parties and checked in October 2026. They are not Casa Trufa prices. “Search summary”: a figure read in the search engine’s summary, not on the page itself.

Each breed has its own price guide with the detail: Maltipoo, Maltese, Cavalier, Cockapoo, Border Collie, Blue Heeler and Bernese Mountain Dog.

Why does the price vary so much within the same breed?

Because different things are advertised under the same name. Four factors explain almost all of the difference:

  • Registration. On one of the websites we checked, a Border Collie without registration was advertised at COP 1,500,000 and one registered with the ACCC (Asociación Club Canino Colombiano, Colombia’s FCI member kennel club) at COP 6,500,000. Registration proves ancestry.
  • The parents’ health tests. Hip and elbow X-rays, genetic tests, a heart exam. They are expensive, and they rule dogs out of breeding. Someone who does them cannot compete on price with someone who does not.
  • The labels. “Toy,” “mini,” “teacup,” “merle,” “blue”: they raise the figure in the ad and do not always mean anything. The Maltese standard, for example, has a single size.
  • What is included. Full vaccinations, deworming, microchip, contract, follow-up. Two identical figures can stand for very different things.

What should not change the price is eye color, sex or how much of a rush the seller is in.

What should a well-raised puppy come with?

  • A vaccination record with the doses for its age, signed by a veterinarian with a professional license number.
  • Up-to-date internal and external parasite treatment, and a health certificate.
  • A written contract with the terms of the legal guarantee (Law 1480 of 2011).
  • The health tests of both parents, with dates and documents.
  • Handover never before eight weeks.
  • Someone to write to afterward.

If a low-priced ad includes none of this, the price is not really low: you will pay for what is missing yourself, at the veterinarian’s.

Why be wary of a very low-priced purebred dog?

Because there are two possible explanations and neither is good. The first is that the puppy exists but comes from breeding with no controls: no tests, incomplete vaccinations, taken from its mother too early. The second is that it does not exist. The Fiscalía warned in July 2026 that a price that is too low is the first sign of online pet scams.

Our guide to puppy scams explains what to check before sending a deposit.

How much does it cost to keep a dog in Colombia?

More than the puppy. The business press puts the yearly cost of having a dog or a cat in Colombia at between COP 2,400,000 and COP 5,000,000. It is a general figure, which we read in the search engine’s summary; treat it as a rough guide.

Over a life of ten or twelve years, that is several times what the puppy cost. And almost everything is calculated by weight — food, parasite treatments, medication, anesthesia — so a 40 kg (88 lb) dog does not cost the same as a 4 kg (9 lb) one. If you are thinking about a large breed, first read the cost of owning a Bernese Mountain Dog.

Why doesn’t Casa Trufa publish prices?

Because we are a kennel, not a retailer, and because every litter is different: the parents change, and so do the tests that had to be done, the number of puppies and whatever had to be sorted out along the way. Publishing a fixed figure would be inaccurate half the year.

What we do is give it to you over WhatsApp, in writing, along with everything it includes, before any commitment. And adopting is an answer too: if you don’t need a specific breed, we explain when it makes more sense.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most expensive purebred dog in Colombia?

Of the seven breeds we raise, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel: in October 2026 two breeders listed COP 15,500,000 and COP 16,500,000. It is a breed with very few breeders in the country and with costly heart exams.

Does a dog with a pedigree cost more?

Yes. On one website checked in October 2026, the same type of Border Collie puppy was advertised at COP 1,500,000 without registration and at COP 6,500,000 with ACCC registration. A pedigree proves ancestry; health is proven by the parents’ test results.

How much does it cost to keep a dog for a year?

As a rough guide, between COP 2,400,000 and COP 5,000,000 a year, according to figures in the business press. A large dog sits at the top of that range or above it, because food and medication are calculated by body weight.
