How we raise

Before you choose a puppy, we want you to see where its story begins.

Families with their dogs in a garden

Is this a serious breeder?

We raise at home, with a few litters a year.

Casa Trufa is a family kennel in Colombia. We do not breed for volume: every litter is planned well ahead and the mothers rest between one and the next. We raise our dogs in line with Colombia’s Law 1774 of 2016, which recognizes animals as sentient beings — and you can come and see for yourself.

  • A few planned litters a year.
  • The mothers rest between litters.
  • Visits by appointment: you can see the house.

Are the parents healthy?

We publish the health tests of every parent dog.

Hip and elbow dysplasia, the genetic tests specific to each breed, eye and heart exams. Each with its result, its date, the laboratory and the document. What has not been done is not made up.

  • The parents’ profiles, with every test and its document.
  • A veterinarian we trust for every litter.
  • Paperwork open to any family that asks to see it.

Are they well cared for?

They grow up among us, with household noise, people and a family routine.

The puppies are born and raised indoors. From their third week they start meeting sounds, surfaces, children and other dogs. They reach their family used to living in a home, not in a kennel run.

  • Socialization from the third week.
  • First outings to the garden and around the house with their mother.
  • Never handed over before eight weeks of age.

And after I take the puppy home?

We are still there, for life.

Going home is not the end: it is the start of another stage. We answer questions about settling in, feeding and training, and we like to hear about each dog over the years. If a family can one day no longer keep its dog, the dog comes back home.

  • A contract and handover paperwork.
  • Follow-up after the puppy goes home.
  • A commitment to take the dog back if the family cannot continue.
