How much does a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel cost in Colombia?
By Casa Trufa ·
It has the widest price spread of the seven breeds we raise: in October 2026 there are ads at between COP 3,500,000 and COP 6,000,000, and breeders who publish COP 15,500,000 and COP 16,500,000. These are third-party figures. The only thing that justifies paying more is that the parents have had their hearts checked by a cardiologist.

This is what others publish. We read it on October 7, 2026 and left each figure with its source so you can check it.

Why does the price of a Cavalier vary so much?
- The parents’ heart health
- Mitral valve disease is the breed’s great problem. Parent dogs evaluated by a veterinary cardiologist, and at an age when the evaluation means something, are few and costly to keep.
- Very little breeding in the country
- There are few Cavalier breeders in Colombia. With so few of them, each ad sets its own figure with nothing to compare it against.
- Syringomyelia and eyes
- The MRI scan to rule out syringomyelia and the eye exam are costly tests that almost nobody publishes.
- Price proves nothing
- One of the most expensive ads we saw did not mention mitral valve disease. A high figure without documents is just a high figure.
Which health tests should the parents have?
- Heart evaluation by a veterinary cardiologist (MVD)
- MRI or a veterinary opinion on syringomyelia
- Eye exam
- Patellar luxation
Each with a date, a laboratory or clinic, and a document. Our parent dogs’ results are published in Meet the parents.
What should be included, whatever the price?
- A vaccination record with the doses due for its age, signed by a veterinarian.
- Internal and external parasite treatment up to date.
- A recent veterinary health certificate.
- A written contract, with the terms of the legal guarantee (Colombia’s Law 1480 of 2011).
- Both parents’ health tests, with date, laboratory and document.
- A stated handover age: at Casa Trufa, never before eight weeks.
- Support after the puppy goes home.
What are the warning signs in an ad for a Cavalier?
- Nobody mentioning the heart: in this breed it is the first question.
- “Original Cavalier” as a selling point, with no registration to back it up.
- Very young parents: an early heart evaluation says little.
- A figure far below those in the table. In July 2026 Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía) warned that a price far below the market is the first sign of an online pet scam.
And after the puppy?
The puppy is the small expense. As a rough guide, the business press puts the cost of keeping a dog in Colombia at between COP 2,400,000 and COP 5,000,000 a year; we read the figure in the search engine’s summary. Food, parasite treatments and medication are calculated per kilo, so factor in the breed’s adult weight.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the Cavalier so expensive in Colombia?
Because there are very few breeders and because raising it well requires costly heart, neurological and eye tests. That said, a high price does not guarantee that those tests exist: you have to ask for the documents.
Which test is essential in a Cavalier?
A heart evaluation of both parents by a veterinary cardiologist, with a date and a document. Mitral valve disease is hereditary and very common in the breed; without that test there is no way of knowing where the puppy comes from.
