How much does a Blue Heeler cost in Colombia?

By Casa Trufa ·

In October 2026, Australian Cattle Dogs, or Blue Heelers, are advertised in Colombia at between COP 1,600,000 and COP 6,000,000. These are third-party figures, seen on MercadoLibre and on breeders’ websites. Before comparing figures, ask about the BAER hearing test: it is the one that sets a serious breeder apart.

What are people asking for a Blue Heeler in Colombia today?

This is what others publish. We read it on October 7, 2026 and left each figure with its source so you can check it.

Why does the price of a Blue Heeler vary so much?

The BAER test
Congenital deafness exists in the breed. BAER measures hearing in each ear and is done on the parents and, where possible, on the puppies. Few breeders offer it.
PRA-prcd and PLL
Two DNA tests for eye diseases. They are done once in the parent dog’s life.
Working line or show line
A dog bred to drive cattle and one bred for the show ring are not alike in temperament. Ask what the parents do.
The confusion over names
Many ads mix up the Australian Shepherd (pastor australiano) and the Australian Cattle Dog (pastor ganadero australiano). They are two breeds; make sure which one you are being offered.

Which health tests should the parents have?

  • BAER (hearing)
  • PRA-prcd
  • PLL (primary lens luxation)
  • Hip dysplasia

Each with a date, a laboratory or clinic, and a document. Our parent dogs’ results are published in Meet the parents.

What should be included, whatever the price?

  • A vaccination record with the doses due for its age, signed by a veterinarian.
  • Internal and external parasite treatment up to date.
  • A recent veterinary health certificate.
  • A written contract, with the terms of the legal guarantee (Colombia’s Law 1480 of 2011).
  • Both parents’ health tests, with date, laboratory and document.
  • A stated handover age: at Casa Trufa, never before eight weeks.
  • Support after the puppy goes home.

What are the warning signs in an ad for a Blue Heeler?

  • Being offered it as “Bluey’s dog” for small children with no mention of its energy.
  • A seller who cannot tell you whether it is a Blue Heeler or an Australian Shepherd.
  • No mention of deafness.
  • A figure far below those in the table. In July 2026 Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía) warned that a price far below the market is the first sign of an online pet scam.

And after the puppy?

The puppy is the small expense. As a rough guide, the business press puts the cost of keeping a dog in Colombia at between COP 2,400,000 and COP 5,000,000 a year; we read the figure in the search engine’s summary. Food, parasite treatments and medication are calculated per kilo, so factor in the breed’s adult weight.

Frequently asked questions

Is a red heeler worth the same as a blue heeler?

It should be. “Blue” and “red” are the two colors in the Australian Cattle Dog standard, and they change neither temperament nor health. If an ad charges more for a color, what it is charging for is fashion.

Which health tests should it come with?

From the parents: BAER for hearing, PRA-prcd and PLL for the eyes, and a hip X-ray for dysplasia. Each with a date, a laboratory or clinic, and a document. Without BAER there is no way of knowing whether the parents hear in both ears.
